Youth Loses In Fight For Life
Walter Ballard 2 percent injured in a truck car crash on Highway 146 near Cedar Bayou died at 9:45 pm Thursday. He died hours after brain strain was called for consultation. Ballard, with a critical head injury, was to undergo a delicate operation. He had been unconscious since the Tuesday accident, when his head was crushed and he was internally injured. He was returning home after visiting his father in law, L. F. Brown, at Baytown. Ballard and truck driver Lester De Bardelaben swerved to the shoulder to avoid collision. both vehicles were demolished. Ballard, a Navy veteran, lived in Baytown area most his life, returned in 1946 after two years service. He had worked at Baytown refinery about a year. He married Melba Ann Brown in September 1949, Cedar Bayou High School senior. Funeral set for 2:30 pm Saturday at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. Other arrangements by Paul A. Lee Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife and his father.
