J D Hunnicutt long time Baytown peace officer and former head of the plant protection at the refinery was listed in fair condition at Tsillie Duke hospital after a Sunday shooting near the heart. A nephew found him bleeding and a note signed by Hunnicutt was found at the scene. He lived alone on North First Street since his wife Rimma Bunnicutt died months ago. He had been despondent and ill in recent weeks. The 72 year old deputy sheriff and early Baytown lawman later worked at the refinery and led the plant protection department before retiring seven years ago.
