Funeral services for 76 year old N Kirby who died Saturday at his home in Baytown area will be held Monday at 2 PM in the First Baptist Church of Votaw. Burial in Yolawe cemetery under Earthman Funeral Home. Survived by widow Mary Pearl Kirby four daughters four sons six sisters three brothers nine grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers named.

The Baytown City Council unanimously passed an ordinance regulating transient peddlers. It requires out-of-town vendors to register, post a $300 bond, and pay a $10 per-agent fee, with fines starting at $10 for violations and exemptions for interstate commerce and home-grown items.
City Council approved a plan to supply Bob Smith Road with city water at a cost of about $7,600. A six inch line from Fair Park to McKinnes Road was approved with five fire hydrants planned along the route. Two alternatives were rejected, including a two inch pipe and a six inch ring from Mekinnes Road to Highway 146 at an estimated cost of $16,000. Middleton said pipes are being ordered and installation will begin when affordable.

Unit aided civil disasters in Texas City in 1947 and Orange-Port Arthur in 1952, assisted Civil Defense during this year s Baytown alert, with 50 percent reporting in uniform in the first hour and 8 percent assembled at the end for sabotage response. Commanders have included Capt. H. C. Moran, Capt. Pat Blakeney, Capt. Axel H. Schoyen, and Capt. John Kader. THE BAYTOWN chapter of the Order of the Arrow will meet at 2 pm Sunday at Troop 245 Scout house at Grace Methodist church.
United States Seventh Fleet aided the evacuation of the Tachens near Formosa as Chinese Communist forces threaten Matsu and neighboring islands. A large amphibious fleet, led by Vice Admiral Alfred Pride, evacuated Nationalist troops from Tachen amid minefields and booby traps. The deserted stronghold showed scorched homes and pillboxes, with no defenders remaining.
Police Chief W R Montgomery said traffic signs have arrived and will be installed this weekend. Beginning Monday morning West Sterling Street traffic will move one way west from Commerce to North Pruett. Ashbel Street also will be a one way from Pearce to Sterling, and at Gaillard traffic will run south from Sterling to Pearl Avenue. Patrolmen will be on duty in the one way areas Monday.

A second blaze at James Thompson’s Willow Street residence caused about 750 dollars in damage, likely from a bathroom heater placed too close to a wall, with firemen extinguishing the flames in twenty minutes.
