The B team Ryan Walker and Michael McDaniel paced Sterling at the Fort Bend Varsity Tournament. Sterling girls, aiming for postseason after district fourth place, face Dobie tonight in a bi district playoff in Clear Lake.
The sixth annual Pilot Club of Baytown Barbecue Dinner is set for Tuesday February 27. This year the event will include the Cowgirl Glitz Boutique, expanding the program with new shopping and dining options.
Baytown police recovered the stolen Ronald McDonald statue and returned it to its home outside the McDonald’s restaurant in the 7000 block of Garth Road.

Goose Creek School Board approved Option 36 to redraw elementary attendance zones for fall as a new 14th campus opens. The 4-1 vote saw only District 6 trustee Bob Hoskins oppose. Pheliria Barnes and Augustin Laredo were absent but supportive. Changes shift 13 Bayou Boulevard and Trailwood Drive students from Crockett to Austin, with five along Raccoon Drive remaining at Austin. Zone maps will be mailed Feb 28 via In Step and posted on the district site.
Judge Tony Polumbo will be roasted at Goose Creek Country Club on February 22 to raise funds for Bay Area Homeless Services. The event, named The Mane Event, centers on Polumbo's wit as a longtime judge and public official. Proceeds support the shelter at 3406 Wisconsin St. Palumbo supports youth programs and community service.
District 3 Councilman Brandon Capetillo filed to run again as Baytown begins May 12 municipal elections. He aims for a third three year term under a new city policy. District 1’s Mercedes Renteria and District 2’s Scott Sheley plan to file by March 12. Renteria is with Pasadena Refining Systems and seeks a fourth term. Sheley is a Bowie Elementary teacher who began in 1997.
Baytown officials host a 7 p.m. public meeting at City Hall to discuss an aquatics master plan and a $65,000 feasibility study by Kimley-Horn and Associates and Counsilman Hunsaker. The aim is to review two current pools and explore small scale water park options with citizen input. Council member Brandon Capetillo has long pushed for a water park.
Baytown City Council will appoint an interim city manager at a special meeting Thursday as it seeks a permanent replacement for Gary Jackson, who departs March 2 for a Deer Park post. The council will select a search firm and decide on national or regional scope for a broad recruitment.
