Atlanta(AP) John Rocker says he flunked a MLB drug test in 2000 and that he, Alex Rodriguez, and other Texas Rangers were advised by management and union doctors after a spring training talk on steroids. He accuses Bud Selig of knowing Rocker was using and taking no action.

State meet eludes RSS Swimmers
Sterling boys and girls swim teams failed to qualify any swimmers for the state meet in Austin Feb 22-24. In Region VI at Katy, the boys finished eighth and the girls ninth as Kingwood swept both divisions. Matt Chapa placed third in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly but fell short of state by narrow margins. Kenna Terry led the girls with a fourth in the 100 back and a ninth in the 100 free, as relay teams posted several top eight finishes. For the boys, Zayne Belal and Stevie Ray earned fifth places in the 100 free and related events.

Texas Abandoned Crab Trap Removal kicks off Feb 15
Parks and Wildlife officials announce a 10 day period Feb 15 to Feb 24 during which all Texas bays are closed to crabbing with traps. Volunteers will collect abandoned wire mesh crab traps from eight bay systems at designated sites and dumpsters. Crabs found inside traps must be released. Last year volunteers removed over 2000 traps with sponsor support.
