Kids from across the Baytown area gathered Saturday for a Christian rally held at the old Lee College Gym. Organizers reported strong turnout and community participation amid a lively, faith-focused program featuring songs prayers and inspirational talks.
Lee College stands 5-10 in Region XIV and hosts two home games this week aiming to reach .500. Eldora Robertson and Rodney Fretty are highlighted in local sports notes from INDEX TELEVISION.
District 7 incumbent Steve Fischer, 59, will not seek re election in the May 10 Goose Creek school board election. Fischer cites desire to spend time with family and reduce aggravation, noting the board’s key role in hiring a superintendent. He has yet to find official District 7 successors and hopes a candidate with shared values emerges. Fischer will focus on family and community activities, including Cub Scouts and grandchildren.
Bounce USA on Garth Road hosted Stuff the Bus to collect school supplies for underprivileged children. Sonic and Communities in School partnered to offer discounts to donors and support mid year needs for students, with CIS urging more groups to assist.
Crosby residents launch a new Lions Club chapter with 31 sign ups on day one. Charter president Chris Weise and District Governor Art Drouin praised regional Lions collaboration as Huffman and Baytown clubs offer guidance. Induction and officer installation occurred at the Crosby Lions charter night as neighbors anticipate shared service projects.
Three Lee College regents plan to run again as their six year terms end this year. Don Coffey Mark Himsel and Mark Hall filed papers last week and will face Baytown voters on May 10. The at large board seats are decided by top three vote totals. Coffey has served since 1983 noting campus growth including new ATC building science facility arena health center and renovations.
