Baytown Mayor Stephen DonCarlos says the city shows a positive economic outlook as Chevron Phillips announces a large expansion with 300 to 400 permanent roles and about 10 000 temporary construction jobs. Other firms including Bayer ExxonMobil Enterprise and Energy Transfer Partners drive a combined roughly 6 billion in investment and thousands more roles, while local schools and Lee College partner to prepare workers with needed skills.

Baytown Police Department statistics show a near nine percent drop in total serious crimes in 2011 from 2010. One murder occurred in 2011 versus six in 2010, robberies fell from 148 to 78, sexual assaults from 20 to 15, aggravated assaults from 126 to 119, auto thefts from 321 to 228, and burglaries declined from 82 to 70.
The Texas Department of Transportation will repair bridge approaches causing weekend traffic diversions in Baytown and Deer Park. Southbound Highway 146 in Baytown and westbound Highway 225 in Deer Park will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on specified weekends through mid March, with detours onto feeder roads. Weather could shift these dates and times.
Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jack Morman urged patience as he begins serving Baytown area residents. He praised the Baytown Lions Club for their community improvements and noted his Deer Park roots and Baytown ties as his “back yard.”
