Cub Scouts from Pack 134 toured The Sun during a page 2 business news visit learning how a newspaper operates. They observed editorial desks, printing process basics, and newsroom roles.
Lee College has been awarded $150,000 for the 2011 2012 fiscal year from the Gulf Coast Partners Achieving Student Success program. Administered by the University of Texas Community College Leadership Program and funded by Houston Endowment, the grant aims to boost college readiness and aid students in developmental education. The grant may total $600,000 over three years. Lee College is among several Gulf Coast colleges selected for the program. Dr. Cathy Kemper notes the gap between high school prep and college readiness remains a major hurdle in the region.

Special to The Sun honors Alvin F Norwood a San Marcos native born August 19 1920 and a 1940 graduate of San Marcos Colored High School His education continued at Huston Tillotson College in Austin interrupted by military service and continued after his World War I veteran return before he returned to college for further study.
