Groundhog Day Forecast Foiled by Clouds and Rain
Groundhog refused to reveal spring as clouds and rain dominated the scene. H G Work reported .22 inches of moisture on Highway 146 over Friday to Sunday, while other Harris County areas saw more rain. A new cool front cooled Gulf Coast temperatures with scattered frost forecast for Monday night.

Baytown Teachers Join Chemistry Group Formation Set on UH Campus
Baytown high school chemistry teachers join peers from Sterling and Robert E Lee to form a Baytown branch of the Chemistry Teachers Association under the Southwest Texas Section of the American Chemistry Society. Lynchburg Ferry to Get History Marker
The Texas historical marker for Lynch's Ferry will be erected in April at the San Jacinto Battlefield Park near Battleship Texas. The marker honors the site one mile northeast of the old ferry, established at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou and the San Jacinto River in 182. It notes Lynch as a Missouri-born merchant and judge who platted Lynchburg and recalls crossers during the War for Independence. The statewide survey aims to record and preserve Texas history, with more than 3,300 markers awarded since 1964.

The Texas weekend violence death toll rose to four by Sunday midnight as traffic accidents dominated. Victims include Jack Bradford of Mansfield 36 killed by knife wounds in Fort Worth area, Donald Burke 29 service member from Perrin AFB killed in a car crash near North Texas, and Dennis Parris 17 from Dallas who was thrown from a car on a Dallas freeway. TSU Funds Theft Leaves Police With Clues Lacking
Police investigate a $180,000 theft from Texas Southern University where burglars used an acetylene torch to breach a walk in safe in Hannah Hall.
