Mine Blast Kills Five Near Mount Pleasant Pa

An explosion deep in the Carpentertown Coal and Coke mine near Mount Pleasant Pennsylvania killed at least five workers and injured four others. One man was missing. Authorities said the blast struck a deep section where ten were working and residents heard no blast. Police Chief George W. Snyder reported at least four believed dead with more possible. Names of the dead were not yet released.

Ickes Condition Reported Serious After Illness
