Texas economy slows but stays out of recession
Comptroller Carole Rylander says Texas growth will be 3.6 percent in 2002, slower than earlier 4.1 percent forecast, due to Sept. 11 effects. State revenue remains strong enough to balance a $114 billion two-year budget, though Medicaid and health costs rise. Oil and gas jobs may fall, while aviation layoffs weigh on near-term growth.
