Young Woman Excels After Kidney Transplant
In New York at Bellevue Hospital a 29 year old German born woman, Sylvia Szlak, is reported doing splendidly after a kidney transplant. Doctors credited extensive tissue compatibility testing that linked a 43 year old donor who had suffered a stroke. The operation lasted 90 minutes after the donor died Friday evening and the transplanted organ has functioned normally. The matching tissue reduced the need for drugs and radiation to prevent rejection.
