The quarterly session of the San Jacinto Association of Brotherhood will convene at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Channelview. John Denlop will run the program.
The forecast calls for warming temperatures with light rain or drizzle into Friday night and Saturday. Friday night lows around the mid 40s, Saturday highs in the mid 50s. Galveston tides show high at 12 38 PM and 5 38 PM with a low at 9 18 AM.

The expanded Texas Department of Public Safety Drivers license bureau will open next Tuesday in Baytown on West Main Street ground floor of City Hall. New rules require photos, fingerprints, vision test, written exam and road test for licenses. Provisional licenses apply to minors. licenses expire on the holder's birthday.
Baytown city councilmen told Baytown CATV and other groups the door is open for future requests on community antennae television service. The 12 year franchise began in 1965 with a one year construction deadline. extension requests were rejected. No rehearing action was taken.
The Texas Water Quality Board denied an application by County Water Control & Improvement District No. 50 to discharge 39,900 gallons daily of treated sewage into Mud Lake near Clear Lake. The board urged tying into a regional system and gave a Feb 1, 1968 deadline to seek alternative disposal methods or connect with the Clearlake Water Authority.
Paul Whiteman known as the King of Jazz died at about 4:30 a.m. in his Bucks County home after a heart attack. The famed bandleader who fused classical music with jazz commissioned Gershwin for Rhap sody in Blue and conducted its 1924 premiere. Whiteman led stars like Bing Crosby and the Dorsey brothers and his orchestra was the era’s top ensemble. He remained versatile, saying music should not be confined to one groove if the work is well done.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey departed on a 13 day African mission stating the United States will renew President Johnson's pledge to defeat communism in Africa as well as in the United States. The trip aims to strengthen ties and highlight American resolve amid regional tensions.
Democratic hopeful Farborough says chances are better than 50-50 for governor. The report outlines prior campaigns in 1862 and 1962, plus primary tests for Gov. Connally. Also noted: Canadian bombers, Viet Cong clashes, royal health news, and a string of international and national political updates.
The body of Malcolm Earle Hunter, 19, found in Trinity Bay after an extensive search, will be honored at a memorial communion at Trinity Episcopal Church at 10 am Saturday led by Rev P Waller Henckett. Hunter's companion, Robert Mellwain, was recovered earlier and identified in Galveston. Donations to local emergency corps are requested in lieu of flowers.
A cooler weekend is in store with increasing clouds and light rain. Frost appeared Friday morning with a low near 32 degrees and temperatures rising to the mid forties by Saturday morning. Rain chances hover around 30 percent Friday night and Saturday.
Saturday census by the Houston Outdoor Nature Club will map Baytown birds in a 15 mile area. About 75 members and guests seek last year’s nearly one million birds and 170 species, led by John Treten. The count runs from dawn to dusk with a dinner tally at the Tower. Sponsored by Audubon Society and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the data help chart U.S. bird distribution.
Voters in Midland and Kermit rejected a one per cent sales tax Thursday, aligning with Odessa’s earlier cancellation of a special election. Meanwhile Crystal City Carthage and Nixon approved the levy, joining Sulphur Springs and Sweetwater in favor, totaling several municipalities adopting the new revenue source.
