Stocks drift higher as GDP, sentiment, spending rise

Stocks in New York edged up toward 19 month highs on news of an 8.2 percent third quarter GDP, 0.4 percent November spending gains, and a 92.6 December University of Michigan sentiment reading. Dow rose 3.26 to 10,341.26. Nasdaq 1,974.78. S&P 300 at 1,096.02 amid light volume ahead of Christmas.

American Airlines Cuts Fuel Surcharge Amid Brief Hike

Fire incident shuts two units at Comanche Peak reactor

A nonnuclear fire damaged parts of the Comanche Peak nuclear reactor near Glen Rose, Texas, causing two units to shut down. TXU Corp said no radioactivity was released and the fire was extinguished within minutes. NRC spokesman confirmed reliance on company information.
