Give Us Faith Courage Poster by Army Artist Christy
Howard Chandler Christy created a Christmas era poster “Give Us the Faith and Courage of Our Forefathers” showing Uncle Sam kneeling in prayer with light from above. The design, produced for Layman’s National Committee of NYC, supported Army and Air Force recruiting, and followed Christy’s other military works including Freedom Is Your Business. Christy, a famed painter, also depicted Thomas Edison and signing the Constitution, with the latter displayed at the Capitol and once shown on the Freedom Train. He painted many national figures and leaders, and a lesser known UN Charter painting remains undisclosed. Nebraska’s first oil well was discovered in 1939 near Wells City.
