Employed since 1927, he planned retirement in June and a return visit to Pennsylvania with a small farm purchase. His wife Mrs Sarah E Gaston, a chief clerk at Baytown Local Draft Board No. 63, also planned to resign and travel with him.

Mrs. Mattie Skeete, librarian at Robert E Lee High School, and her six year old daughter Julie were seriously injured Saturday night in a collision with a vehicle driven by Robert Bo Smith of Mont Belvieu at Hast Hunnicutt Fourth Street. Smith was uninjured and charged with failing to keep proper lookout and reckless driving. The pair were taken to San Jacinto Memorial Hospital by Earthman ambulance.

Minutes show the council approved a drilling permit on city land behind Memorial Hospital on December 12. Gr Reesor, winner of a lease on city property, sought a permit for an 18 acre Pruett Estate lease instead. The well would sit about 60 feet from the lease line. No Reesor reps attended the meeting, and no location plot accompanied the permit.
Funeral services were held for 72 year old M Harvey a retired Baytown hardware merchant who died Sunday night at 2 hospital He spent over 24 years in the hardware trade and operated Harvey stores until retirement in 1945 He was a native of Macon Georgia and long resident of Texas with ties to Harris County the Tri Cities and Goose Creek He is survived by his wife Edna a brother and three sisters Burial followed at Ivy Church Cemetery near Crockett Baytown addresses listed in notices.
General MacArthur praised the evacuation of the US Fifth Corps from Hungram as a critical move possibly saving the UN command in Korea. He cited Chinese forces entering the war with 27 divisions and parts of the Third Field Army, warning their entry could have destroyed UN strength if not for the withdrawal and split Allied forces. Five year old Joe Malchar of Crosby, a polio victim in an iron lung at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, was allowed to visit his mother Mrs Leon Malchar at the home of Mr and Mrs Korenez in Market Street. Joe enjoyed the outing but cried when it was time to return to the hospital. The Malchar family, including Joe’s father Leon and sister Mary, were struck by polio in August 1948. Mary has since recovered.
Fire swept through a three room Foster home in Highlands on Sunday, destroying the dwelling. Mrs. Cora Foster was in Boston at the time, leaving two teenage children Lilian and David at home asleep as the blaze broke out.
