Deadline for 2011 property tax deduction and payments
Tax assessor Don Sumners reminds taxpayers that to deduct 2011 property taxes on federal returns they must be paid by December 31, 2011. If not deducting, 2011 taxes can be paid by January 31, 2012 without penalty. Offices will close Dec 23, 26 and Jan 2 for holidays. payments posted Dec 31 if postmarked by Jan 3.

McDonald enters race for Chambers County 344th District Judge

Lee College rescinds Rundell Hall asbestos contract
At a Tuesday board session Lee College voted unanimously to rescind the NCM contract for asbestos abatement of Rundell Hall and Moody Center. The panel also approved competitive sealed proposals for the project delivery method and plans to work with the architect before reopening bids, signaling roughly a one month delay.
