Frozen Point origin tied to 1895 blizzard in Chambers County
In 1895 a February blizzard dumped over 20 inches of snow from the Texas coast to Chambers County. Cattle from the Jackson Ranch wandered into East Bay and drowned, prompting the point of land there to be named Frozen Point. Historical notes cite Galveston Daily News coverage on February 17, 1895 and later reflections by Ralph Semmes Jackson and Wanda Orton.
