Cecelia Ricketson woke to breaking glass as a fire tore through their single story Baytown home at 10030 Pinehurst Drive. No injuries were reported though nearly all possessions were lost in six minutes. The family escaped with just a phone thanks to a neighbor. See FIRE on Page 8A.

Baytown Police Destroy About 400 Seized Firearms
Baytown Police incinerated a cache of seized firearms including handguns and sawed off shotguns at an undisclosed site. The disposal, part of an annual program, melted about 400 guns this week, roughly a third of 1,000 held by the Property Recovery Division, to keep weapons off streets. Nellie Aguilar said the aim is to prevent reentry into crime as most guns were confiscated for unlawful possession.
