House Inquiry Bares Loans To VA Men
A two day House investigative hearing led by Rep Olin Teague examined abuses in GI Bill training programs in Dallas. Barber school operator A B Heath testified of loans to VA employees that were never repaid to keep schools operating, naming several loan recipients and detailing uncollected funds while VA official William Lenderman defended his oversight role. Heath suggested loans funded contracts and he described unreturned sums including about four thousand dollars to VA staff, with at least three borrowers identified. The committee aimed to subpoena more witnesses, though some leads remained unresolved at session’s end.
