Teen survives crash healing through rehab and aims home for Christmas
Shay Hollingshead, a SHAY Ross S. Sterling High School senior, sustained critical injuries when a fleeing vehicle crashed into the car he rode in on October 19. He spent weeks in a coma-like state at Memorial Hermann Hospital, underwent multiple surgeries, and now trains in rehabilitation at TIRR. Doctors have controlled infections, his left arm can move, and he plans to return home for five weeks before a second rehab phase. Fundraisers include a Dec. 15 barbecue at Tejano Sundrite Bar and a Texas Roadhouse event to support medical expenses. donations can be made to the Shay Hollingshead Benefit Fund at Wells Fargo.
