Orbiting telescope eyed to aid Navy navigation and science
The U S Naval Observatory participates in a planned Orbiting Space telescope able to view 14 billion light years and objects 50 times fainter than current ground based instruments. It aims to improve astrometry for military navigation and advance space based astronomical measurements. The project accompanies the Hubble Space Telescope, scheduled for 1986 launch aboard Atlantis.
