About 40 Baytown residents attended a public session to review Texas Highway Department plans revising the Interstate 10 Spur 330 interchange at Decker Drive. Neighbors urged more Baytown ingress and egress studies and the addition of overpasses to ease detours south of Spur 330. Engineers outlined a $5 million project adding bridges and widening approaches, with construction hoped for by spring and no current plans to extend main lanes of 334 into Baytown.

Baytown honors Cpl. Charles H. Kilgore posthumously for heroism in Vietnam. He charged enemy fire to aid a wounded comrade during a search and destroy mission, was mortally wounded, and awarded the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and the Purple Heart. Kilgore, promoted posthumously to corporal, also had his name memorialized with Kilgore Post 456 in Baytown.
Baytown city council weighs a one percent sales tax as a potential revenue source to support growth needs. A preliminary meeting discussed the plan, with a citizens committee to study needs forming for a detailed election-based review. Mayor Cravey noted opposition to the tax due to disproportionate burden on the poor, while noting voter approval as possible. A special election would precede any levy, with eight citizens at the meeting and E C Jack Simmons named temporary chairman.
