Houston Police Chief L D Morrison announced a statewide crackdown on city crime from 3 pm Wednesday to 8 am Thursday. The effort brought 186 people to the city jail by Thursday morning, with 16 posting bond and released, 71 held for investigation, and the rest slated for a short course in agriculture at the city prison farm on vagrancy and related charges.

Communist agitators disrupted Oslo University Hall as Gen. George C. Marshall received the Nobel Peace Prize. Leaflets flew and shouts denounced Marshall and the United States while King Haakon VI and Crown Prince Olav watched. The protest interrupted the ceremony briefly before Marshall and Albert Schweitzer accepted their prizes.
Arthur Godfrey denied responsibility for a mating incident at his Leesburg kennel.
