Gangs blamed for string of Compton youth violence
Police report an escalating wave of gang related incidents in Compton. A 15 year old, Eric Anthony Gates, was shot and wounded while another 16 year old was arrested nearby after the Wednesday night shooting. A 41-year-old Compton youth was killed in a separate fight between rival gangs. Officials attribute the violence to firearm availability and urban ghetto life factors, with calls for action to curb gang activity.
