Viet Cong announces longer Christmas New Year truces

The Viet Cong says its forces will observe three day Christmas and New Year truces, two days longer than Saigon's. The Christmas truce runs from 1 a.m. Dec 24 to 1 a.m. Dec 27, and the New Year truce from 1 a.m. Dec 1 to 1 a.m. Jan 2. The Thieu government set 24 hour cease-fires at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, with U.S. forces joining. The U.S. Command reports North Vietnamese officers guarding deserters during infiltrations into the South and cites defectors from the 3rd Division noting desertions and executions.

Former Gander Star Loses An Eye In Mishap

Charley Hendricks 1 a former AEL Gander star sustained a workplace accident at Cleco Machine Shop in Houston. A metal fragment pierced his safety glasses, injuring his right eye and entering the eyeball. He is hospitalized at Spring Branch Hospital Room 301.

Lamar Would Just Adjourn City Council Meeting

Councilman Don M Hullum presiding in Mayor Glen Walker's absence opened the Thursday session at city hall asking City Attorney Bill Laughlin who would take over if he had to leave. Laughlin said a replacement would be selected. Councilman Lamar Kelley suggested ad journ if needed. Hallum remained for the meeting.

The Goodfellows drive invites donations to help Baytown children have Christmas. Eastern Star Chapter 798 contributed 10 and 16 dollars in memory of Norman J. Casey. City hires firm to pursue federal funds for street upgrades

Baytown officials on Thursday contracted Bernard Johnson Engineers to study and apply for TOPICS federal state funds to improve Albert Thomas Circle. The project could cost over 100000, with only right of way and maintenance expenses to the city. Five week study to be led by Jose J. Correa.
