A parking lot full of shoppers helped police arrest Channelview resident Kevin Whittaker and Houston resident Ortis Holmes III, both 33 to 35, on robbery charges after a 69-year-old Baytown woman Juanita Berry was robbed at gunpoint Saturday. Witnesses chased the suspects through the Target lot and nearby businesses along Garth and Baker roads, drawing attention that led to their capture. Berry described a tense scene as she approached her car and noticed a man loitering near her vehicle.
Santa and friends Robert Skelton admires a Christmas display in his Craigmont Subdivision yard. Skelton, a 35 year resident, has decorated for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas each year. Harris County Community and Economic Development Department and Angelou Economics are developing an Economic Development Strategic Plan to guide four precincts in county decisions. Assistant director Ken Fickes says the plan aims to attract higher paying jobs, boost the tax base, and benefit residents. The final plan will be public when released on an upcoming page.
Baytown Police named a 16-year-old boy as a person of interest in the death of 55-year-old Judy Huddleston. He remains unconscious after an apparent drug overdose, delaying formal questioning. Huddleston was found dead at a home on Cabaniss Avenue where she cared for a 94-year-old man. Police noted possible weapons and wounds consistent with a hammer found in the room.
The Veterans of Foreign War Post 912 hosted a Christmas dinner and dance for local veterans families to honor younger veterans and give back. Four new members joined as Sally Speers praised the event and recruiters noted the history and camaraderie while families spoke of loved ones deployed in Iraq.
