Skills And Techniques By Mrs Davanay At Garden Club
Mrs RB BH Davanay of the Baytown Garden Club presented a program on skills and techniques at Grace Methodist Church. She defined skills as experiences gained by practice and knowledge and techniques as methods of performing the mechanical details of an art. She outlined four basic elements for floral design: a strong linear form, interesting silhouettes, balance of visual weight, and a clear center of interest at growth. She urged proportion to the container and warned against sandwiching in elements. The talk noted using many items for originality, described a new anchoring device, and listed tools like clips, staples, florist wire, and tape. Mrs Davanay urged lines that tell a story, and civic chairwoman Ted Lyman announced a Christmas food basket gift to aid a needy family. Members were asked to bring nonperishable foods for a December 15 Christmas basket at Mrs C Stanger’s home. Mrs Spear will present the program and distribute gifts at the event.
