Hoover faces retirement talks with firm resolve
In a candid interview, FBI Director J Edgar Hoover, 69, dismisses retirement rumors, noting he plans to stay active despite pressure to leave. He cites health improvements, loyalty to the job, and a belief that the FBI must work with local police rather than become a national police force. He defends the bureau against civil rights criticisms and Warren Commission findings, stressing the need for lawful, fact based enforcement.

El Paso Details Plan to Divest Pacific Northwest Pipeline
AP reports El Paso Natural Gas outlined a divestiture of Pacific Northwest Pipeline Co. in U S district court. Pacific Northwest would receive 3 trillion cubic feet of reserves, double the pre merger total. Pacific Northwest would assume 5184 million of El Paso debt, with an interest rate bump. The plan also envisions returning PNWP property and adding 20 million in improvements including a million plant near Big Wye. The Supreme Court ordered divestiture last April for antitrust violation.
