Sheriff honors Marine Vet in mortgage-free home gift
Sheriff reports Staff Sergeant William Thomas Edwards known as TJ was PTSD-stricken veteran celebrated by Susan Barlow of the Texas Sentinels Foundation. The foundation provided Edwards and his family a mortgage-free home in Country Meadows off Highway 146, hailed as an outstanding Marine and humanitarian by Barlow.

Edwards aged 37 was found dead by his son at home Friday. Police say death by own action appears likely after PTSD struggles with hospital visits cited. Sheriff Hawthorne calls him a terrific young man and a true patriot to our country. His wife Jene sought treatment for anxiety and low mood.

City seeks volunteers for Blue Heron Park tree plantings
Dig this City calls for volunteers with shovels gloves or rakes to plant 55 trees at Blue Heron Park on Saturday. The 9 am ceremony at the 16 acre site will be followed by planting in teams with pre drilled holes and tools provided by the Parks and Recreation Department. Lee College Breaks Ground on McNair Center Expansion
Lee College hosts a groundbreaking for the 12 million McNair Center expansion at 3411 Interstate 10 Baytown. Southern Newspapers chairwoman dies at 37
Martha Ann Williams Walls, 87, Houston, founder and longtime chairwoman of Southern Newspapers, Inc., died of natural causes at home. She helped build a 14-paper chain, including The Baytown Sun, and will be succeeded by CEO Lissa Walls Vahidiek. She grew up in Gadsden, Alabama, and began in publishing at age 20, later totaling 67 years in the industry. Her survivor list includes daughter Lissa and son Cooper.
