City Taxes Move Slowly in Baytown Despite Higher Target
Baytown taxpayers paying slowly with October city tax receipts $2,520.25 below October 1954. C C Redd, tax assessor collector, says October 1955 collections total $84,723.63 versus $317,244.01 the prior year. Anticipated 1955 taxes set at $712,646.15. Old and Lost River Bridge Work to Anchor West End Pier
State Highway department engineers will close the north lane of the Old and Lost River bridge on Highway 73 to traffic next week to anchor a west end pier showing slight movement since July. Repairs, including a heavy dead-man and guy wire, aim to pull the pier back into position over about three weeks with one lane open for traffic nearby during paving of the 1.125 mile stretch at a cost near $200,000. A separate Harris County line paving project and an overpass at FM 565 plus a traffic interchange at 146 and 73 near Mont Belvieu are awarded to Austin Road and Bridge Co. with a $2.1 million bid, set to start mid-December.

Radar signs erected before equipment arrives in Baytown

Bayshore Home Burns as Wind Whips Fire
Eight-room Bayshore home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hoover on Tri City Beach road burned Wednesday night as a north wind fanned the blaze. Baytown and Mont Belvieu fire departments brought the fire under control after sparks set shingles on nearby buildings. The family escaped with no injuries though clothing was lost. cause unknown.

Rain Falls On Baytown Drainage Working Well Officials Report
Murky skies dumped 1.37 inches of rain on Baytown Wednesday night and intermittent showers were forecast. City Manager Darvin Ariddleton said drainage conditions were better than expected and the new West Main sewage plant largely bypassed by the rain without hampering operations.
