District aims for exemplary progress under STAAR standards
Cavazos outlined the district goal of a high performing exemplary district with students achieving at advanced levels and college and career readiness. All schools earned Met Standard under STAAR, but reading skills need work as 27 to 30 teachers were added at the junior level and the middle school day was lengthened for separate reading and writing classes. The district received about $10.5 million in extra funds for teachers and development, and holds over $100 million in the fund balance.
