U S Weather Bureau reports tides running three to four feet above normal due to persistent southwest winds. Flooding risk limited to some Baytown streets, not homes, per Civil Defense Director J Fletcher Hickerson.
Velma Munson celebrates a win by her football team and declares skeptics who favored the rival will face them at the restaurant where she works. George Lindy returns to Minnesota after visiting Baytown. Betsy Phillips praises Padre Island benches. Melanie Moore and Cynthia Moore attend Dallas fashion shows. Susie New is a Gulf Coast Hospital patient. Margaret Wyonenmer and Den plan a September move from New Jersey, buying a Summit home via ex Baytonian Janet Anderson.
Lee College Board approved 69,089.35 in bids including audio visual gear, camera and drafting equipment, typewriters, sound and lighting, and an engine analyzer. Title VI bids for the Instructional Media Center totaled 41,939.16 with a 100,000 center budget partly from a federal grant. Names such as Keuffel and Esser, IBM, George Lange and Co., Skylark, Brown and Associates, Central Scientific Co., and Kustom-Tronics appear among awarded suppliers.
Mrs Karl W Opryshek president of the school board announced for re election as a trustee in the Oct 5 election He is 93 and works as receptionist and dental assistant in her husband s office She says she is anxious to continue her efforts The post up for election also includes incumbent Bob Wahrmund who will not run Donald C Murray filed for Wahrmund s seat Also noted is election coverage on Page 2
Services are set for Gener Muller 61, a Baytown resident noted for his work on a levee plan to protect low lying areas from hurricane and tidal flooding. He died Friday in a Baytown hospital after multiple heart attacks. Burial will be at San Jacinto Memorial Park with Paul A. Lee Funeral Home directing.
Symphony and library leaders from Baytown discuss a joint cultural outreach through a Bookmobile project. Antonio de Almeida, named guest conductor of the Houston Symphony, will conduct a program at Lee High School auditorium.

Protests planned in Pittsburgh with possible broad participation. The piece also notes political developments around Kennedy family, military actions near Da Nang, and legal probes involving Mary Jo Kopechne case.
A car carrying Patricia Ann Deckert and Larry Joe Deckert and driven by Earl Zeckeloors collided with a Missouri Pacific train near the M6 overpass east of Hardin. Patricia 1 and Larry 17 died. Zeckeloors and Michael Deckert 10 were injured. Michael was treated at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Zeckeloors and Deckert 19 remained in Liberty hospital in satisfactory or critical condition. Grandparents Artis Visher and Bertha Deckert, Baytown relatives, survived. funeral services for Patricia and Larry Joe were pending at Alison Funeral Home in Liberty.
A Baytown subcommittee urged the city to join Humble Oil and Refining Co in negotiating with the San Jacinto River Authority to purchase treated surface water. The plan envisions a $67,000 investment for a 24 inch line to deliver water, reducing unit costs from 22.92 to 17.42 cents per thousand gallons, with a five million gallon per day plant proposed near Baker Road to meet peak needs through 1975.
Texas senators take a three day recess after the House approved a tax package worth about 380 million. Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes said a Senate hearing is set for Monday to review the measure with a 60 day emergency appropriation already approved to cover check payments.
Cedar Bayou Methodist Church plans a three week observance in October marking its 125th anniversary. Each Sunday has a theme Honoring Our Past We Serve Our Present and We Launch Our Plans for the Future with a Baytown Sun supplement and historical features. Conrad Matysiak is general chairman and invites former members to bring old photos and items for the history project.
Ten leading local industries favor early tax payments to aid the school district as hopes grow for a $404 million tax roll. Humble Oil and four others indicate cooperation, while five firms including U S Steel and Houston Natural Gas have not yet responded. The district expects top industries to total nearly $275 million of the $404 million valuation.
