Doves Prospects Favor Watering Holes In South Texas
TPW biologists report above average dove numbers after mid August field checks. Dry Texas south of I-35 concentrates birds at water and grain, while Hill Country rainfall may scatter them. North Zone runs Sept 1 to Oct 30 with 15 bird bag limit. Central Zone Sept 1 to Oct 30 and Dec 26 to Jan 4 with 12 birds. South Zone Sept 23 to Nov 10 and Dec 26 to Jan 15 with 12, all with two white tipped dove limits. A special South Texas Whitewing Zone offers early September afternoon hunts with 12 bird bag, up to four mourning doves and two white-tipped doves. New 2005-06 licenses on sale with Migratory Game Bird Stamp and Upland Bird Stamp. HIP endorsement required.
