Water district seeks bonds to fund improvements near Baytown
The Harris County Fresh Water Supply District No 27, an area of 1,412 acres outside Baytown, proposes bonds that would raise taxes from 35 to about 70 cents per $100 of valuation. A home valued at $100,000 could rise from roughly $350 to $700 annually. Some residents prefer revenue bonds funded by users rather than district-wide taxes. The district has 500 active customers.

Revenue bonds could raise district water and sewer rates
Early voting began this week for a bond proposal to fund district water and sewer projects. SAMCO Capital Markets warns tax bonds spread costs evenly while revenue bonds shift much of the burden to users, with rates potentially rising to 15 to 20 dollars per unit. Elderly residents on fixed incomes could face higher charges, and turnout may be low with fewer than 1,000 residents in the district. Early voting runs until September 9 at 5534 Wade Road, 11 am to 2 pm weekdays, with election polling on September 13 also at the same address. For more information call 281-424-5616.
