A large fire in Katy Texas destroyed the Tucker rice drier and 20 000 barrels of rice valued at 186 000 dollars early Thursday as the town’s residents watched. The blaze started at 10 40 a m and the building collapsed after midnight. Volunteer Fire Chief C E Ince said the fire may burn for five or six days unless the fire is distributed and wetted down. Three firemen from Rosenberg and Brookshire were overcome by heat and treated at Rosenberg hospital.

Galveston August 26 A four year old Houston child Irene Eguia daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest Eguia wandered from her parents on Galveston beach late Wednesday night and drowned when she went wading or fell from a pier Fire department searched the beach with lights and found the body in shallow water after about an hour of effort.
