Local bank robber to be sentenced this fall
Akon Stanley Bess, 8 of LG Del Nozie, convicted of robbing Highlands State Bank of 322,500. US District Judge John vf Singiewea set Sept 13 for sentencing. Bass faced up to 20 years and a 5000 fine as Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred L. Har argued the theft was a gimmick. Bass claimed he believed in personal contact and demonstrated his burglar protection system. His attorney Getty described him as inventive and dramatic, noting he did not intend to rob the bank and that a handshake approach led to capture by bank staff and a customer until police arrived.
