Former Sun publisher Leon Brown dies at 71 in New Mexico
Leon Brown, 71, former editor and publisher of The Baytown Sun, died Sunday in Santa Fe after complications from hip surgery begun in a hotel fall while on vacation with his wife Mary. A memorial service is planned for Friday at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown. Brown, born in Pleasant Hill Louisiana, built a long career from teaching to newspaper management and community service.

CWJC prepares for new semester in Baytown
Christian Women's Job Corps of Greater Baytown will start a new semester on August 29 in Baytown. The non profit program guides Baytown women to job skills and self sufficiency through a 12 week course. Since 2004, sixteen classes with 122 women have completed the program and graduates have been hired by Trinity Bay Pipe & Supply and Tri Star Freight Systems. Executive director Dena Horne emphasized readiness to make life changes during participation.
