Anniversary of Hurricane Alicia memory stirs Baytown memories
The 28th anniversary of Hurricane Alicia on August 18 recalls the life changing storm for Tami Queen Dervenka. Her Baytown neighborhood became Baytown Nature Center after the 1983 Texas coast hurricane altered the area and her family’s Bayshore Drive home in Brownwood faced the bay view and pier.

Goose Creek CISD sets Aug 22 start across 26 schools for about 22 000 students. High schools Lee Sterling and Goose Creek Memorial begin at 7 15 a m with 2 30 p m dismissal. Five middle schools start 8 45 a m to 4 p m. Six elementary start 8 15 a m to 3 30 p m with 15 minute later start.
