Tropical Storm Erika Fails to Meet Forecasts at Landfall
Erika weakened to a tropical storm as it made landfall near Matamoros south of Brownsville causing limited damage. Downed trees and roof damage were reported in Mexico while warnings were dropped and power outages were brief in the Rio Grande Valley. Shelter crowds formed at schools but most areas experienced dry skies by midmorning. Authorities noted the storm dissipating inland in central Mexico as residents remained cautious.
