Truck traffic and safety drive Baytown editorial
The Sun viewpoints editor Mark Fleming argues for map reliance over GPS and praises a new Chambers County commercial vehicle enforcement program. He notes increasing truck traffic from Port of Houston shipments and industrial growth, warns of unsafe operators, and commends local law enforcement for roadside inspections aimed at removing dangerous drivers and reducing unfair pricing.

Rhetoric versus reality for GOP hotheads in Congress
Arkansas Times columnist Gene Lyons analyzes the GOP's fall clash between Tea Party shows and party establishment. He argues a shutdown gamble borders on melodrama while urging a bipartisan path to a continuing resolution, noting debt debates and deficits have shifted conservatives’ rhetoric away from policy toward ideology. Public figures like Cruz and Paul drive the fringe, but leadership and voters diverge on restraint and reality.
