Specialist Keith E Grace Jr 26 of Baytown was killed in action along with two Fort Campbell servicemen on Aug 11 from indirect fire in a military operation. The region also saw a roadside bomb and a market bombing claiming lives and injuring others. Mayor Don Carlos mourns the loss while Representative Wayne Smith offers condolences. Grace is survived by his father Keith Grace and mother Cheryl Scott. Memorial services have not been announced.
Chambers County commissioners instructed Sheriff Brian Hawthorne to proceed with placing school resource officers in Anahuac and East Chambers ISDs next school year despite at least one district lacking funding. Budgeted $35,000 per officer with $15,000 more from districts anticipated. Anahuac ISD cannot meet added cost. plan to be reevaluated next budget cycle. Sheriff reported 53 percent of emergency calls from western county while Baytown and Mont Belvieu areas stay outside sheriff coverage. County clerk Patti Henry authorized to buy software to track money owed to the county from defendants, fines, court costs and restitution.
Lee College professional administrative technology students will use Office 2013 this fall to build skills for administrative support careers. The program updated all software to Word Excel PowerPoint and Access with Cyn thia Lewis noting local job growth and employer demand for Office 2013 skills. The U S Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 12 percent rise in administrative roles by 2020, with many opportunities in the Baytown area.
A Baytown Bay area outage affected about 142 CenterPoint customers including The Baytown Sun when an 18 wheeler snagged telephone and cable lines near North Felton and Brentwood. Three poles fell. 44 Graywood Arms units lost power. Crews worked to restore service, expected by 8 p.m. Power page 8.
