In Lenore West Virginia a 15 year old boy Leonard Boyce is trapped 14 feet underground after a second cave-in as rescue workers labored through the night. About 408 workers and area coal mine teams removed rocks and dirt to free him while he pleaded to be pulled out. Authorities halted operations to prevent further collapse. Baytown to adopt new telephone prefixes in December
Baytonians will receive new dialing prefixes as expanded service begins December 17. Cambem, Baytown General Telephone district manager, says many prefixes change from 582 to 422 and 566 to 424 with about 200 numbers in Baytown and Mont Belvieu changing entirely. Residential stickers and a new directory will announce the changes, and toll free dialing to Houston will be available for Baytown and Highlands.

Old City Hall Site To Be State Office
Baytown City Council approved letting the Texas Department of Public Safety use first floor space in the old city hall to house an enlarged staff under a four year lease. DPS would pay utility maintenance and a lease fee, with staffing needed for driver’s licensing tests and fingerprinting under a new act that takes effect January 1, 1968. Mayor Cravey opposed leasing the building, favoring its demolition instead.
