Levy Formula Is Amended Hikes Industrial Taxes in Baytown
Baytown council votes 5-2 to amend the 1962 industrial tax policy paving the way for a tax increase up to 50 percent for 1968 69. Mayor Cravey and Councilman Fanestiel dissent citing a need for a full report from the industrial district committee before changing policy. The move targets Humble and Stauffer chemical plants along with United Carbon, affecting city revenues and plans for street and service expansions in the wake of growth from a new U S Steel plant nearby.
