Hope Remains After Fire At Baytown Church
About 30 congregants gathered amid the charred ruins of Living Hope Church after a Saturday fire that destroyed the sanctuary and steeple near Baytown Airport. Pastor Kevin Kleinhenz urged that the church is the people, not the building, and four other churches offered space as rebuilding plans unfold.

Propositions 8 and 18 Target Election Cost Reductions
Texas voters on September 13 will consider Prop 8 and Prop 18 aimed at efficiency. Prop 8 would let unopposed candidates win statewide and local races with no opposing candidates if no write ins exist, potentially canceling elections in Baytown and Goose Creek ISD. Prop 18 covers local elections and would not print elected names on ballots. Gov. Perry vetoed HB 1344, leaving Prop 18 moot. Baytown officials note existing law already allows canceling unopposed contests.
