Acuna trial turns on image of brutal loner and quiet teen
Prosecutors in Harris County presented Robert Aaron Acuna as a violent loner who preyed on the elderly while friends described him as quiet and well mannered during the penalty phase of his capital murder trial. A jury convicted the 18 year old in the deaths of James Carroll and Joyce Carroll and will decide on lethal punishment or life with possible parole after 40 years. Evidence included mall security surveillance and a detective’s use of a license plate image to identify Acuna as the suspect in an aggravated assault from August 2003.
