Crosby man Mark Pelestine, 49, was struck by an 81 car train as he attempted to cross rail tracks behind Robert E. Lee High School. Police say about 30 seconds of patience might have saved him, with injuries described as severe and life threatening. Life Flight transported him to Memorial Hermann in Houston. The incident occurred at 11:35 a.m. as the long train moved slowly along the tracks between Carnegie and Gentry streets. The bicyclist involved was treated for shock.
San Jacinto Mall launches annual Back to School events with a 1 p.m. Noah's Ark Workshop in the Mervyn's wing where the first 100 kids make a stuffed animal for free. A 4 p.m. fashion show features kids and teens modeling outfits from mall vendors, plus face painting and balloon art. Shoppers spending over $100 receive a candy bar at customer service that could reveal a $25, $50, or $100 gift card.
Baytown Historical Preservation Association invites to the fifth annual Cowboy Supper on Saturday evening August 16 at Grace United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Dinner features barbecue brisket sausage sides and desserts.
