Baytown MDD board and council members heard a CDS Market Research report on strategies to attract higher income residents and boost upscale housing, following a 2010 study. The effort aims to lure retailers and address a housing shortage that limits growth, with see growth on page 7A.
Baytown City Council discussed the proposed 2011 2012 budget led by City Manager Bob Leiper. A 3.5 cent tax increase per hundred dollars is under consideration to support bond improvements from 2007, with no non bond operation tax hike or staff cuts. The plan includes a one time five percent staff bonus but no raises beyond police and fire contracts.
Texas Equasearch volunteers combed Channelview and Thompson Road areas seeking Wanda Trombley, 57, missing since early July. Family say foul play may be involved. the search center was at First Assembly of God Church. Trombley may have medical issues and was last seen in Cloverleaf, Harris County.
Organizers ready Baytown Special Rodeo at Eastside Honda in Mont Belvieu on Saturday September 10 from 10 am to 2 pm. Elvis will perform with clowns and a Goose Creek Cookers chuck wagon lunch breakfast treats and a petting zoo available. Rocking Horse Riders provide horseback riding and games for special needs youths while schools promote attendance through Special Education departments.
