Reports from Copenhagen cite Prof. Leonid Sedov of Moscow University stating the Soviet Union plans to launch an artificial satellite in the near future. The press conference was held Tuesday.
Crosby school trustees said there are no facilities to de segregate and will not change enrollment terms at the start of the term. They will study a citizen committee to address integration and plan for a bond issue to fund a new high school. A special meeting is set for 7:30 pm Tuesday to consider the bond and announce committee members.
Rotary District Gov Ernest Japhet will present Houstonian Leem Sharrar at the Wednesday luncheon to discuss alcoholism with a Q and A session to follow.

Representative Mollohan accuses U S Immigration Service under Lt Gen Swing of secretly plotting a border bayonet barrier. He cites a report showing generals aiding the service as consultants and details a plan to recruit 8000 volunteer inspectors and procure military gear.
On Toneer Street a Pioneer bus skidded on a slick surface and overturned in a ditch. Six passengers from Houston were aboard, including Ola Washington, Delma Bridwell, and Maury Dunecan, with none seriously hurt according to doctors.
Republican leaders downplay Harold J Talbott resignation amid a Senate inquiry into his private business tie to the Pentagon. Sen Barry Goldwater says no political damage due to lack of criminal intent while Sen Karl Mundt notes ethics standard shift and only error in judgment. White House says no request for Talbott’s resignation and a subcommittee review is expected to be brief and likely unanimous.
Houston mayor Roy Hofheinz locked himself in and refused to recognize a suspension motion after a special council session voted to suspend him pending an impeachment hearing on eight misconduct charges. He urged the council to proceed to court as the dispute moves toward district court.

Tropical storm Brenda weakened after moving from Mississippi into Louisiana. Forecasters predicted light showers and cooler temperatures across eastern Texas for several hours. Brenda's center moved at about 15 miles per hour with winds of 25 to 45 mph. Reports said at least seven people were dead or missing as squalls battered a 200 mile front from New Orleans to Pensacola.
The school board tentatively approves a budget of 3,241,571.05 for public school operation in 1955 56 with estimated receipts of 9,242,270. The Aug. 15 hearing at 7 30 p m invites patrons to question the budget before final adoption at the April 15 meeting. The plan funds three new staff members and raises for administrators, with extended contracts for several aides and increased pay.
A night of violent incidents left two wounded with memory loss and a third hurt in Baytown area. A Negro man with five wounds could remember nothing and was jailed on a drank charge. A woman he encountered was also jailed for drunkenness. A La Porte man claimed he fell on glass and recalled little else. Police suspect a friendly altercation in the area, with no recoverable details.
Robert Toscant, 48, bought a new car Monday and wrecked it in a ditch while celebrating with Mia Toscant, the stepdaughter, and others. A fight led to Toscant shooting after arriving home. his past murder sentence from 1938 and parole in 1945 are noted.
A Baytown Chamber delegation led by County Judge Bot Casey and City Council plans a 4 am Tuesday Aug 24 trip by chartered bus to Austin to petition the State Highway Commission about a road from Ronda to Highway 73. The group, including officials and business leaders, will discuss traffic and road projects and may dine in Austin before returning, with costs around two dollars per member.
Patrolmen T E Westmoreland and W W Brackin sought a man in a Ford convertible about midnight Monday. A blue and black Ford with mismatched Kentucky plate numbers was stolen near Houston. The driver sped from 90 to 110 mph into a tunnel on Highway 1464, vanished through the tunnel, and officers never saw him again.
Washington reports coffee costs easing with a projected 1959 60 marketing year world green coffee output of about 48 million bags, 11 percent above 1953 55. Increased supply from new trees planted in Latin America and Africa will take years to bear, signaling further declines and potential price relief for consumers.
