Firehouse home a Baytown couple kept a labor of love
John and Susan Shrader bought a derelict firehouse on Minnesota Street in 1990 and restored it into a quirky residence with a new roof, windows, and central air. They added adjacent lots, grapefruit trees, a painted chessboard, and a basketball hoop. They plan to sell for more elbow room while recalling a neighborhood with cantinas and friendly neighbors.
